By covering a broad range of aspects of proton-deuteron interactions, present
experimental opportunities as well as prospects for future experiments could be
adressed . The workshop greatly benefited from the intense discussions among the
attendees . On a worldwide scale the COSY accelerator in Jülich will be without
competition in a variety of fields in medium-Energy physics, and in the near future,
in particular polarization aspects will be strongly emphasized. By exploiting polarization
degrees of freedom in few-nucleon reactions, involving deuterons and other
light ions, a new window for a deeper understanding of the hadronic interaction will
become available.
The local organization of the meeting was carried out by Prof. V. I. Komarov and
his collaborators (Dzhelepov Laboratory of Nuclear Problems) with the help of the
management of the Laboratory of Nuclear Problems . We would like to express our
gratitude to all of those that helped to make the workshop a success, in particular
we would like to thank Prof. Kadyshevsky and Prof. N. A. Russakovich for their
hospitality.
It should be pointed out here that our joint research does not only represent a
forefront in scientific achievements, but that its inherent values are also important to
promote a better international understanding across political and cultural boarders.
We hope that our successful collaboration will continue to perform equally well in
both scientific aspects and human relations in the future.
We would also like to express our gratitude to the institutions that helped by supporting
the workshop financially, the Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung,
the Forschungszentrum Jülich and the International Bureau for German-Russian Cooperation
(WTZ) .

4th Anke Workshop on Study of proton-deuteron interactions
398 S., 2003
Preface
On July 8 and 9, 2002, 18 scientists from several German and Italian institutions
(Forschungszentrum Jülich, Universität Erlangen, Universität Münster, and INFN
Ferrara) and 24 scientists from Russia (Joint Institute for Nuclear Research, Dubna,
Institute for Theoretical and Experimental Physics, Moscow, Petersburg Nuclear
Physics Institute, Gatchina) and from Georgia (High Energy Physics Institute of
the Tbilisi State University) gathered in Dubna for the 4th ANKE Workshop. The
main focus of the workshop dealt with the
Study of proton-deuteron Interactions at ANKE.
