On TEXTOR three different diagnostics for the determination of the ion effective plasma charge (Z_eff) are installed. All of them measure the bremsstrahlung in the visible continuum. Additionally one can derive Z_eff from the plasma resistivity. The task of this investigation is to compare the different Z_eff determinations in order to minimize systematic errors. For this purpose different discharge conditions, ohmic heating, auxiliary heating, low- and high density and impurity seeding were investigated. An error analysis of the specific diagnostic methods is included.
